Beijing, China (4E) – China on Wednesday offered a free trade pact with the Mercosur trade bloc as well as a loan of $10 billion to Latin American nations in an effort to help them in the region’s infrastructure projects, said Premier Wen Jiabao.
Jiabao’s proposal came at the end of his Latin American tour this week.
Wen is also keen on seeing local currency swap agreements with Latin nations. The Chinese premier said that many Latin American nations are still in a developing phase where many are busy building their infrastructure to boost economic growth.
Premier Wen added that China, which holds world’s largest foreign exchange reserves, is willing to invest in the region to expand their businesses.
The Chinese offer came two days after Beijing and Buenos Aires signed pacts covering cooperation on nuclear energy and agriculture.
